Graphic Designer - Artist - Photographer
Freelancing as a graphic designer in Chicago for fifteen years has given me lots of varied experience and a strong print production background. I have worked on everything from packaging to billboards to catalogs, and I have a basic knowledge of html, javascript, and web programs. I am meticulous, detail-oriented, and a team player; perhaps unusual in someone with a creative background like me. I'm a little Type A and a little B. I especially love designing logos and identity systems as they boil everything down to a simple strong mark, the very definition of graphic design.

Creativity must be cultivated. And, graphic design walks hand-in-hand with fine art. My background in the arts informs my graphic design aesthetic. Today, I maintain an active career as a freelance graphic designer. However, I continue to study and take inspiration from the foundations. At the School of Representational Art (SORA), I focus on drawing and painting, refining my technique and skill. I am inspired by the works of John Singer Sargent, the Pre-Raphaelites, and William Morris -- to name a few.

My background in photography has proven to be an asset both with my graphic design and fine art work. Though I have made the move (reluctantly) to digital photography, I love and hope they never stop making film. Every photo is an exercise in composition which applies to art and design.

I am passionate about the environment and try to take an active role in protecting it as best I can. I helped to found the Green Committee in my apartment building. The committee is working to make recycling easier and therefore encourage more people to recycle, and we are trying to track our recyclables to ensure they are in fact being recycled. My mid-rise building is working with the city of Chicago to help implement or improve recycling programs in other large buildings.

When I'm not working, you can usually find me traveling. I have made my way through Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and India. I love the variety on this planet and hope to see as much of it as I can. When not traveling, I volunteer as a Chicago Greeter so I can share my love of Chicago, art, architecture, and history with others.

I am quite political and concerned about many issues. I recently volunteered for the Obama Campaign during the election in my own little way to make this world a better place. This included training at Camp Obama and traveling to Southern Indiana to help in a field office. This impressed upon me that extreme poverty is not only in Southeast Asia, but right here in our backyard!
